1. Quote breakdown and checklist
When reviewing the quotes from your removals Brighton companies, you should have a checklist containing questions about:
What does their insurance cover? Buildings? People?
Our extensive insurance covers us for everything we have come into contact with from start to finish. Goods in transit cover for up to £50,000 and public liability cover for over £2million. It is even valid if we have not packed everything. Some companies insurance only covers you if they have packed you. So you may find yourself in a sticky situation if you do not ask about this
- Are there any hidden costs? Sometimes removals Brighton companies can add on extra costs for materials that they use during your move, such as sofa covers and mattress covers. There may even be over time prices that are hidden within the terms and conditions of your contract so it’s always good to ask if that is the final price.
- Do they charge VAT?
- What time will they be commencing work? It’s always good to double and triple checked this along with the date.
- Are they able to organise packing materials?
Any removals Brighton company worth it so should be able to arrange for great quality packing materials to be delivered off at your convenience either through them or a third party that they work with. Box boys are a great 3rd party company to use for any packing needs. They stock Waterman’s strong corrugated boxes that have been a market leader since 1897.
Corrugated cardboard is designed to pack, protect your goods. It will hold up to pressure from the sides or the top. It should protect against anything that happens during removals. It is made to be stacked. Check out more details on our packingpage.
Or indeed perform some of the packing or logistics prior to the move? Like reserving parking bays.
It is important to keep in good contact with your removals company in the lead up to your move. This is to make sure that they have not double booked on your move day and to make sure that all the details are confirmed and double confirmed.
A good removals Brighton company will contact you just before the move so that you don’t worry.
A great removals Brighton company will keep in regular contact with you. They will ask how your packing is going and if you have sorted out any parking bay reservations. They may even just to check in from time to time to make sure that you are still on course for your move date.
Get in contact immediately if you need any more advice on how to get the best removals Brighton quote.
2. Pros and cons of a set price
We provide many removals vans in Brighton . Let us outline some of the pros and cons of different pricing structures.
Set price jobs are good when you have quite a lot to do. Then you know you are packing absolutely all you can into the allotted time. If the removals company fails to do all the work in that time it doesn’t matter because you have agreed that the whole job will be completed for the set the price.
Check out the domestic removals page for more in-depth info or call our removals Brighton experts any time of day.
The cons of this are as follows…
If you do not get a few quotes and a really good handle on how long the job should take then you will be in the dark as to knowing whether the price is right or not.
Often a set price will be given that guarantees the removals Brighton company a certain amount of financial leeway, a buffer to cover their costs and profit margin. So if they have underestimated the scale of your move they have allowed for some extra time and massaged this into the price. This is totally fine and regular practice but for smaller or medium moves you will find that an hourly rate is often cheaper.
Please get in touch if you would like more advice on removals Brighton rates.
3. Pros and cons of an hourly rate
Using our Gold Bear Removals Brighton hourly rate means you only get charged for the time that you use. The only drawbacks are that if you run into any unseen delays you will be the one that pays. For example, if you have a completion or run into traffic or something will not fit through a door frame and you have to take the door frame off and disassemble the item then you will be surprised as to how much time this actually as onto a move. And in this pricing scenario time is money!
Please get in touch now either via our contact page for a candid chat about our removals Brighton services.
4. Set price and hourly rate hybrid
We offer a third way which is a hybrid of both pricing systems that leaves you with the customer in control. This is unique to Gold Bear Removals Brighton.
We like to come over and see all moves if possible. This way we can give you the most competitive price and also make sure that we are fully prepared for your move and have all the correct resources in place to give you a smooth and efficient exit from your home.
We run the hourly rate alongside this for small to medium size removals. This way if we get the job done a lot quicker then you may keep the saving and often this is quite considerable.
Click on our contact page for more in-depth knowledge about removals Brighton rates.
5. On the day of your move
Here are a few tips for move day from Gold Bear Removals Brighton
On the day of your move you just need to have anything set aside which is important for the day. This could include forms keys ID phones et cetera. Then you should be able to step back and let the removals take place.
Of course, if you have some ideas or a specific order that items need to be unloaded then it is best to explain this to your chosen removal company before they start.
This part of the procedure is made much easier by our process. We give you a score card in which to assess the level of service that you’re getting as it happens. The manager of your job knows that he is being assessed and so will endeavour to go the extra mile. As mentioned the manager receives 75% of his wage for the day and the remaining 25% is received when he has reached 100% satisfaction with you the customer. You have seven days to return this submit this form via email. If there is anything unsatisfactory that is not right away and the manager has seven days to put everything right for you to receive his 100% rating.
If he has gone above and beyond the call of duty then there is a possibility of receiving a further 10% as a reward.
Other removals Brighton companies do not have such system in place to protect you. As the move day drags on removal men get tired and may want to renege on certain aspects that they have agreed with you. These may be things like reassembling beds or wardrobes or tidying things up. This is not a problem for us.
Make sure that everything is in its correct place and will not leave until you are satisfied.
Call for more information via our contact page for more information on our removals Brighton guarantees.
6. After your move
Here are a few tips for after your removals Brighton service has been performed.
After your move fully check that everything is intact. Unpack the boxes as soon as you can and check for any damage. You will want to address these as soon as possible. The longer you leave it the harder it is to get a company to do anything about it.
As mentioned you will be asked to fill out your review form and add any comments that you wish.
When this is received we will grant you a tree that is been planted in your name at a site in Suffolk.
Give us a call soon! We would love to tell you more about our company and removals Brighton services.
7. Removals Brighton
You will be receiving a top quality move from Gold Bear. Our removals Brighton service is a high-quality professional service delivered by friendly, skilled local people who all know the area like the back of their hand.
Performing the removals Brighton service is not as straightforward as it would seem. I’m sure you have heard of horror stories or unfortunately been involved in one. This is because even in the smallest all logistical tasks there are many moving parts. Some of which are covered below.
If you are looking to dispose of items for free then you will need a car to take things to the domestic waste site. If this is not possible for you then your removals Brighton company will need to have a current waste carriers license to go to thecommercial waste site. At the waste site, there is a £90 entrance fee and charged £90 per tonne from there on.
Are you clearing out an old shed? Or are you re-organising the loft or basement? Perhaps you are converting the study into a nursery? Maybe you just need to have a good old clear out. Whatever the reason we can offer incredibly useful advice on this subject of clearance Brighton.
Give us a call when you are planning your project and we can guide you through each stage to make sure that the process is as swift and painless as it possibly can be. We have decades of experience and can really reduce the amount of stress involved. Call your clearance and removals Brighton specialists for some free advice.
If you want us tom come over we have 1,2 or 3 man and van teams available for you to choose from. With the correct resources, we can get you clear in no time.
Some local tips only allow you to tip 1 car boot full every month. So you will need to think carefully how to get rid of things effectively and with as little effect on the environment as possible.
For example; if you are getting rid of building waste you will need to use rubble sacks. You can get rid of as much hardcore (meaning cement, bricks, rocks or sand) as you want at the hardcore tip. They just charge £10 for entry. This is situated on the M23 just outside the city.
Here are some local waste centres for your convenience:
Brighton recycling centre
Address: 185 Wilson Ave, Brighton BN2 5PD
0845 355 0550
Second-hand furniture shop
Address: Saunders Park, Shabitat, Brighton BN2 4AE
These guys are great if you want to get rid of any second-hand furniture. If you take it to the waste site, it could end up as landfill.
Hove Recycling Centre
Address: Old Shoreham Rd, Hove BN3 7AE
This might suit you better if you are in Hove but be warned it gets very busy on weekends!
Here are some commercial waste centres if you should need them for your business clearance. These are the sites that our removals Brighton specialists use regularly. They are fully accreditted and government approved.
Dirty Business Rubbish Clearance
Address: 93 Cres Dr N, Brighton BN2 6SL
KSD Environmental Services Ltd
Waste and Recycling Services
Address: 1a, Moulsecoomb Way, Brighton BN2 4PB
Excellent site with great facilities. It’s close to Brighton so convenient for city use.
If you are moving from the city centre there are specific loading and unloading times that must be adhered to. There are bays situated around the city which can be used for these purposes but this must be planned carefully with your time restrictions.
Some streets such as Bute Street in Kemptown are so tight that you cannot fit any vehicles up that street other than a 3.5 tonne truck such as a Ford transit Luton van. There is nowhere to park without causing an obstruction as both sides of the single lane road are packed with residents with cars. You will need to double park and if any cars to leave you will have to manoeuvre out in order to let them past. You need to remain vigilant and act respectfully.
Parking on double yellows
You also need to know that parking on double yellow lines is fine sometimes but you need to show that the vehicle is working and in use. This is done by keeping the back of the van open and making regular trips to the van to negotiate with the local traffic wardens. They will normally give you a 20 minute minimum grace period to finish off or perhaps even longer if you are nice to them! We have worked in the city so long that we know which rules are bendable and which you really have to abide by!
Parking and Traffic Cameras
Just because you can’t see a traffic warden does not mean that you are free to do what you want. There are traffic cameras now employed all along Queens Road up to the station.
It is included in the BAR terms and conditions that the parking tickets can be passed on to the customer so your removal company should be aware of when and where you will encounter parking infractions to save you money.
Brighton and Hove council charge £35 per ticket. If they are dealt with within their offer a time that is. If they are not then this rises up to £70.
Your removals Brighton manager must know when and how to reserve bays also. These are reserved at £70 per day and a Luton van will need to have 2 of these. This can be done up to a week before your move. It’s always good to book this kind of thing in early, just in case by some rare eventuality someone else is vying for the same spot as you on this day.

So when you call up for a quote and we will able to divide you with an exact time estimate for all of the work. We’ve moved in and out of storage every week so we know just how quick we can get your job done.
Moving into storage can take some extra time, and here’s why
When you move into a house we packed the van right up to your front door and items go straight from the van into the correct rooms.
When we move you into storage, we park the van at any available space in the car park then retrieve trolleys on which to load all of your goods safely. These trolleys are not very large and it takes more than a few minutes to pack and load your goods onto them safely. Then once your belongings are on the trolley, they can be pushed into the storage building where sometimes they need to go into a lift and then to another floor. From there they are pushed to your unit and then remove carefully from the trolley and into the storage unit.
Then items need to be packed carefully and stacked into your storage unit. If your storage unit is quite small then we really need to take our time in packing it carefully so that everything fits in safely.
Preparing for your move, by Gold Bear Removals Brighton: Packing
If you are packing everything yourself, to help things go as smoothly as possible on the day in question here are some of our top tips and considerations. This will not only help you when you come to unpacking the other end, but it will also help your removals team get the job done as swiftly as possible. This is especially important if you are paying by the hour for your move, to ensure that you don’t overpay.
Tips on packing
Prepare as much in advance as possible. Pack all of your belongings room by room and stack the boxes into a corner of the room. Mark them clearly with the room name so that your removals Brighton team can deposit them in the correct place the other end. This is also a good opportunity to mark whether they are fragile, or need to be carried a certain way up, to minimise and breakages or issues.
Our removals Brighton managers advise, when packing boxes, always use big boxes for light items like cushions and furnishings. Use small boxes for things that are heavy, like books and records. If you have any space in your box when packed, pad them out with extra items like pillows or blankets. This prevents boxes from collapsing when stacked up in the removals van.
Using the right packaging and quality removals products
If you are doing your packing yourself, the materials you use are vital to making sure your goods are transported safely. Cutting corners on cheap, pound shop style products could lead to disaster for your precious and delicate items.
At Gold Bear, our removals Brighton teams can pack for you and eliminate this stress. However, if you decide to pack yourself, make sure that your products don’t let you down.
Using strong Scotch tape is key. You can pick several rolls up in bulk relatively cheaply on Amazon. You can also order your bubble wrap here too. As well as your high quality recycled packaging paper.
Boxes are one of the most vital components of any move! We don’t believe in buying new boxes when there are quality recycled ones available. If you have the time, it’s always worth trying to source them yourself from a local shop or supermarket as the first port of call. We will always try and do our bit for the environment and save you money.
Alternatively, if you’d like them to be delivered to you from our supplier, get in touch with our brilliant local supplier:
68 Denmark Villas, Hove BN3 3TJ
Sell or give away before you move
Get rid of any unwanted items so that you aren’t stuck with a lot of clutter you wished you’d got rid of beforehand in your new home. Sites like Ebay are great for selling any items which are no longer useful for you but which other people might love. Alternatively, head to the charity shop. Your removals Brighton professional will be able to give you advice on which of the charity shops are suitable.
Cleaning your house to move
To ensure that you get your full deposit back or don’t suffer any surprise charges, it’s important to leave your new house spotless. Gold Bear offer a top to bottom deep cleaning service across different packages, which leaves your home spotless. We always get glowing reviews, but if you’d prefer to use your own company, here are some local cleaners that Gold Bear Removals Brighton recommend:
The Brighton Cleaning Company
14 Walpole Terrace, Brighton BN2 0EB
Silver Star Cleaning
Unit W11 – The Knoll Business Centre, Old Shoreham Road, Hove, BN3 7GS
